flight 1549

what are the chances of surviving a plane crash?
that question crosses my mind everytime i fly. that makes me scared of flying.

in the news we see planes either in flames or into pieces without survivors. so some say very slim or no chance at all. but there is. in fact according to flight books survival is in the 60% range, of course depending on the variables. also, it's mentioned that large commercial planes have less crash counts because they have a system for every possible situation that could happen.

picture this, last Jan. 15, 155 people on board flight 1549 of US airways survived after the plane splashed in the hudson river minutes after take off. ditching, as it is called, is extremely uncommon in commercial passenger travel. survival rate is almost not 100%. the plane was completely intact, not in flames and managed to stay afloat.

if i'm not mistaken the 1549 flight is the first ever commercial airplane to ditch with 100% survival rate with the plane in one piece. pilot then hailed as hudson hero.
