promo, promo, promo! dont' we just love promos? of course we do! especially airline promos... thank god for them, ordinary folks can now fly. domestic and international, your choice. so hear this, once upon a time, i got to bag a php500 roundtrip tix all-in to kota kinabalu. awesome deal thru airasia. weeeee...
never heard of kota kinabalu until i came across the promo page. airasia has no other flight out of the country, just kota kinabalu and kuala lumpur. i was left with no choice, been to kl.
i usually prepare itineraries... not for this one. i was only sure of 3 things. going to a tropical city in the malaysian state of sabah. two hour flight. first out of the country trip with relatives. and i came back with a truckload of fun and exciting memories.
kota kinabalu is a rather small city. we were able to tour most of its spots and landmarks in a day. our ride? this 5 seater pimped and bejeweled proton sedan.
first stop on the first day. signal hill, the highest point in kota kinabalu. (1) uncle roy enjoying the breezy weather. still trying to take in his funny self (2) the viewing deck and the view (3) the ladies... sister dana, cousin rhoebe and tita jane (4) the road to i-don't-know-where

at the tun mustapha tower, the tallest building in kota kinabalu, second tallest in the island of borneo.

our hotel - cititel express... i could never ask for anything better. with the price that we paid? (1) the room was clean, well-lit, spacious (2) staff were friendly and answered all our questions (3) plus that nice view from the top!
kota kinabalu boast of beautiful island beaches. it would suck if we didn't lay around the beach. so we did! jump off point was jesselton point - the pier that looked more like a yacht club. per advice of locals, pulau mamutik is best for swimming and sunbathing. rm 17, roughly around php250 for the boat ride.

for somebody who's been exposed to a lot of sand and sea, this may be one regular island beach. at least for me, it was. to some, it's white sand and clear blue water would be breathtaking!
